Boeing (+1.52%) is running out of space to park its grounded 737 Max planes, so it’s storing some in the employee parking lot at its Renton, WA, factory. Local news outlet KING-TV captured the scene, which for us has quickly become the frontrunner for “Picture of the Year.”
Remember: Regulators clipped the 737 Max’s wings in March following a second fatal crash. And Boeing is still dealing with the fallout:
- Because of the ban, it has about 100 newly minted jets with nowhere to go.
- Parking each plane can cost about $2,000/month, according to Bloomberg.
But the parking bill is tiny compared to other costs Boeing faces. CEO Dennis Muilenburg said yesterday he’s having “ongoing conversations” with 737 Max customers about potential reimbursements. After all, when you buy something, you expect it to work.
