As anyone who has tried to purchase a car recently knows, it’s slim pickings out there. A global chip shortage has caused production lines from Detroit to Hiroshima to slow to a Geo Metro’s pace, and dealers across the country are out of inventory by the afternoon of delivery day. But there may be good news on the horizon: General Motors executives recently told investors that its chip supplies are improving and the company expects production to increase by 25%–30% this year over 2021.—DB
