An unequal employment recovery

A look at personal finance through data.

Though the news out of the most recent jobs report was largely positive, digging deeper into the data reveals some disheartening news. Men have largely recouped their pandemic-related job losses, but women—especially women of color—are still lagging behind. According to recent data out of the Bureau of Labor Services, the unemployment rate for white men and women overall is relatively low. But Black women, Latinas, and women with disabilities are experiencing unemployment at a much higher rate than their counterparts. The pandemic’s effect on the job force, especially as it relates to women, is profound.
